Numascale Selected to Partner with 1degreenorth to Deploy On-Demand Big Data Analytics Infrastructure for Singapore’s National Computer Center
Numascale, 1degreenorth, and BlueData to utilize R, Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, and analytics databases MonetDB and Neo4j in build.
Austin, Texas, November 16, 2015 – Numascale was selected to join 1degreenorth, BlueData, MonetDB, and Neo4j to provide on-demand High Performance Computing Big Data Analytics (“HPC-BDA”) infrastructure for the Singapore National Supercomputer Center (NSCC). The companies signed a one-year MOU earlier this month to furnish the infrastructure for experimentation and proof-of-concept projects for the big data and data science community in Singapore.
This HPC-BDA infrastructure will sit on NSCC’s new 1PetaFlop HPC cluster with more than 30,000 cores and 10 PB of high performance storage. The system will offer a self-service web portal that allows users to easily self-provision Apache Hadoop and Spark clusters, analytical databases such as Neo4J graph databases and MonetDB column-store databases, and analytics tools such as R and Julia, on-demand in a multi-tenant private cloud environment for big data.

NSCC’s HPC cluster will be powered by BlueData’s software platform and will deliver high performance analytics in a Big-Data-as-a-Service solution for the Singapore organizations. BlueData’s mission is to simplify and streamline big data, enabling a cloud-like experience for on-premises Hadoop and Spark deployments. RStudio will be enabling the HPC-BDA environment with their RStudio Server and Shiny Pro Server tools. The HPC cluster will also enable a new generation of R-based data science work.
This initiative will launch in Q1 2016 and will target Singapore-based companies and government agencies that are looking to start a proof-of-concept (POC) using big data analytics, but are not yet ready to acquire their own system or are not able to run such a POC in a public cloud environment due to security, performance, or data movement considerations. The HPC-BDA system provides for a secure, multi-tenant private cloud environment for Apache Hadoop and Spark running on the NSCC’s supercomputers. Numascale and 1degreenorth will provide expertise and services to onboard companies in the use of the system, including data science best practices, consultancy, and training.
